The faculty, administration and staff of the NIU College of Visual and Performing Arts are deeply committed to our students' well-being. If you need some help, or you know someone who is struggling, there are resources available through the college and university to support academic, emotional, social and cultural development. Our student-centered programs include tutoring, counseling, assessment, crisis response, outreach, consultation, training and educational services.
Those services include:
- A monitored CVPA email account you can use to reach out if you need assistance from someone in the college at cvpa@niu.edu.
- Counseling and Consultation Services - NIU provides comprehensive mental health support to students currently enrolled at NIU. With a full range of services, presentations and programs, we focus on a variety of health and wellness topics.
To start using our services, call 815-753-1206 to schedule an initial consultation. During your appointment, you'll speak with a counselor about your concerns and how to best meet your needs. Your appointment may be in person or remote (video or phone) based on your preference and other considerations.
- Immediate help - Do you need help right now, or are you worried about someone else? Call us at 815-753-1206, any time of day or night, 24/7. If it's outside of office hours, you'll have the option of speaking with an on-call counselor.
- NIU Center for Student Assistance - NIU offers a whole host of services to support our students, everything from Student Wellness to Advocacy Services to the Disability Resource Center to Peer Academic Coaching and much more. For a full view of those services visit the NIU Center for Student Assistance.
